.gal Domain

The .gal is the generic top-level domain (gTLD) representing the Galician language and cultural community online, delegated to the root zone on March 13, 2014, and managed by Asociación puntoGAL, based in A Coruña, Galicia, an organization whose members include the Real Academia Galega (RAG), the leading linguistic authority on the Galician language.

Registration is restricted to bona-fide members of the Galician linguistic and cultural community online, an eligibility that does not depend on the applicant's geographic location: both those who use or commit to use Galician in their online communications, and those who promote various aspects of Galician culture online, or those who specifically address their communications and services to this community, can register, regardless of which country they are in. Domain use must meet four conditions: it must be generally accepted as legitimate, beneficial to the cause and values of the Galician community, commensurate with the importance of the registered domain name itself, and maintained in good faith both at registration and thereafter. Following general availability, the registry applies an extensive post-validation compliance program based on these same language and culture criteria, and may require the holder to demonstrate their tie to the community.
