Introduction

Glue Records, also called Child Nameservers, let you create nameservers with your own domain, for example:

ns1.yourdomain.com
ns2.yourdomain.com

Each of those nameservers must be linked to an IP address so that it can resolve properly.

What they are used for

Their main purpose appears when you want to use branded DNS, which is very common in reseller setups or custom DNS services.

How they work

A Glue Record links the nameserver name to an IP address. Without that link, the DNS system would not know which IP to query when someone tries to use that nameserver.

Conclusion

Glue Records let you create custom nameservers and connect them to an IP address. They are essential when you want to run branded DNS with your own domain and brand.
