Set up calendars and contacts in cPanel
Learn how to sync webmail calendars and contacts on iPhone, macOS and Thunderbird using CalDAV and CardDAV.
Introduction
Besides email, cPanel can also sync calendars and contacts through CalDAV and CardDAV. This lets you use your events and address book on compatible devices such as iPhone, macOS or Thunderbird.
What CalDAV and CardDAV are
CalDAV is for calendars. CardDAV is for contacts.
They connect your device to the webmail server in a similar way to how IMAP syncs email.
Before you start
You need:
- A mailbox already created in your hosting account.
- Access to webmail or cPanel.
- The mailbox password.
- The calendar and contacts configuration details.
You can usually find those details in:
Webmail -> Calendars and Contacts Configuration
Typical details to check
| Item | Example |
|---|---|
| Username | user@yourdomain.com |
| Server URL | https://yourdomain.com:2080 |
| CalDAV | https://yourdomain.com:2080/calendars/user/calendar |
| CardDAV | https://yourdomain.com:2080/addressbooks/user/addressbook |
Always copy the exact values shown by your webmail panel.
How to set it up
On iPhone or iPad, add a CalDAV account for calendars and a CardDAV account for contacts.
On macOS, add an internet account and choose manual setup if automatic detection fails.
In Thunderbird, add a network calendar for CalDAV and a CardDAV address book for contacts.
Conclusion
Calendar and contact synchronization in cPanel is useful if you work across several devices. The key is to copy the exact data shown in webmail and use an app that supports CalDAV and CardDAV.
